CEDAR Fireside Chat with Louis Schweitzer
Through a series of Fireside Chats, the wider CEDAR mentoring programme provides CEDAR members with opportunities to convene with more senior figures from across Europe to nurture strategic dialogue and enhance CEDAR members’ professional exchange. The first of CEDAR’s exclusive fireside chats was held with Louis Schweitzer, Chairman of Renault, on 6th November in Paris. The impassioned talk covered topics from the inclusion of Muslims within public institution work-forces to the nature and existence of a French national identity.
In addition to holding the position as Chairman of Renault and French public equalities body Halde, Louis Schweitzer is Chairman of AstraZeneca and non-executive director of BNP Paribas, Electricité de France, Veolia Environnement, Volvo and L'Oréal, as well as Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Philips Electronics. He has previously held positions like Inspector of Finance at the French Treasury and Chief of Staff to Laurent Fabius in his various government posts.
Louis Schweitzer joined Renault in 1986 and was appointed President in 1990. He was Renault's Chairman and CEO from May 1992 to April 2005, when he became Chairman of the Renault Board of Directors. Schweitzer is a Commander of the French Légion d'honneur and National Order of Merit.
